Operation Shoebox

In support of United States armed forces personnel overseas

Your Efforts Are Appreciated!

The Rolling Hills Council has received a number of emails of appreciation from overseas personnel who received packages from our Girl Scouts.  Here's what they have to say:

June 16, 2007
Your gift, cards, letters and pictures from the kids were greatly appreciated. Tell the Girl Scouts & Brownies we love the cookies.
Thank you.

My name is Everette Bryant. My unit and I received many packages from you. I am a corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Everything that you sent us has or will be put to good use. Thank you very much for your generosity. The biggest talk amongst my Marines was the Girl Scout cookies. They didn't last long after the boxes were opened. Please thank all of your friends and families and anyone else who donated. I know it took a lot of time, money and energy to put together those packages. The way our Marines faces lit up to see an entire room filled with packages was priceless. Thank you for your unrelenting support.

Dear Girl Scouts of the Rolling Hills Council of New Jersey
I would like to say thank you for your participation in the Operation Shoebox campaign. I received some of the items that you collected during my recent deployment. I wanted to personally tell you that your efforts are greatly appreciated by all who received the items especially the drawings and letters that you sent. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to this project. I wish you all the best in the future and I hope that you continue to make a difference in the lives of the men and women who are fighting to protect our country. Thank you!
Very respectfully
Capt Lauren Maher-Dycus

I wanted to thank you and the Girl Scouts of the Rolling Hills Council for taking the time out of your busy schedule to collect and pack the goodies for the care package. They have reached a lot of people in the Air Force and have put a lot of smiles on people's faces and warmness in their hearts. People donít realize that when you're deployed and away from your family it can be a very stressful time and hard to cope with. You're missing your family and youíre a long way from home. You're not sure whatís going to happen and to top that off you're not really getting any letters or care package from home and the holidays are coming. It is not a really good combination. Plus it's your first time deployed and it really makes a difference when you get mail. It helps you to take your mind off of the situation at hand. So it was a real morale booster to receive your cards and words of encouragement. It makes it worth being over here and away from our family to know that America is standing behind us 100%. Just like we're fighting for the Global War on terrorism, you are too by making sure that our spirits stay at the highest point. I would like to thank you and wish you a Happy New Year and be thankful for the positive people that are around you - your Girl scout leaders because without them your organization wouldn't be as successful. Thank God for volunteers. I just love the Girl Scouts; I was a leader for many years even when I didn't have my daugther. I can't wait for her to turn 5 so that she can become a Daisy. I've enclosed a picture of me. You take care and enjoy your holiday.

To ALL in Operation Shoebox,
I received your wonderful care package with joy and blessings. My name is (E-4) Religious Program Specialist, Petty Officer Third Class, Christopher Herrera; I work in the Chaplain's Office here in Kabul, Afghanistan. It was a real blessing to receive not just all the items and the delicious box of Girl Scout cookies, but to see and read the heart warming letters from all of you. You just don't realize just how great it feels to receive just anything from caring people in our great United States. It watered my eyes to read all the kindness, love and concern that you've taken to show all our armed forces deployed across the middle east. Thank you so much: Troop 1227, All the 14 troops of Valley Ridge New Jersey, all the people and business involved in Central New Jersey. May God Bless you for all your kindness this Christmas Season.
Sincerely,
Joint Forces Command

Dear Girl Scouts of the Rolling Hills Council of New Jersey,
I and my unit in Iraq have recently been the lucky recipients of numerous care packages that your troops filled and packaged for Operation Shoebox. What an incredibly touching and motivating experience to have received such support out of the blue. I try to impress upon family and friends how motivating support from home is. It often is a bigger motivator than the reasons we were sent here to fight. Unless you've been deployed to a war zone, I'm not sure you can understand just how much your thoughtfulness and support means. If you have been deployed, I need say nothing further. Thank you and know that your efforts are very appreciated and help to make some very tough times a little more bearable. I applaud your efforts and commend you for the love and caring you show to us so far from home and our families. Please keep up the great work. Happy Holidays and best wishes for a safe and rewarding 2007.
From somewhere in Iraq,
Sincerely,
Dave

Hi ya'll! I just got the package that you guys put together. Seriously, I don't know how to thank all of you, for your time, money and for the appreciation that you all put in to it. I really appreciate it. Coming back to the base from a long mission and walking in my room with a big box full of good treats on top of my bed just makes my day worth it. You have no idea on how much this means to me.
Oh well, I guess I better end this one before I get all emotional with you all. So, once again, thank you, God Bless and I'll bid you adieu.
Respectfully,
SPC Michael Pagaduan

I wanted to say I really appreciated the packages, I shared them with everyone else I work with. We are truly grateful that people back at home still appreciate our dedication on fighting the war on terrorism.
