During the past few months, exciting property improvements have been underway at Camp DeWitt.
A beautiful, light-filled new recreation hall will house a nature education center, as well as a modern, air-conditioned multi-purpose room. The building is on the site of the old "pole barn" and will be used year-round. During summer camp sessions it will serve as a storm shelter. Recreation Hall construction is expected to be completed by December and interior completion by spring and will be ready for use for the summer camp season.
Campers, trainers and other volunteers will appreciate the five new pavilions that were constructed this summer. In addition to much-needed shade and shelter, they provide the perfect spot for outdoor cooking and dining, and they will be a great addition to council-wide events such as Family Fun Day. The new pavilions are located at the program center, the top of the pool field, Hawley field, lower Mountain View, and Engleman field.
Troop campers and summer campers who opt to spend the night will enjoy the six new platform tents that were recently erected. They are located on the left side of lower Mountain View (opposite the Kiss site) and will replace the Kiss site tents.
